The Foley Rebuild
Center has a separate
test center with its own
foundation, isolating the
dynamometer vibration
from the rest of the
building. The test operations are centered
around a pair of Taylor
water-brake dynamometers, a 1500 hp (1120 k W)
unit and a new 5000 hp
(3730 k W) system (seen
here), the latter being the
first application of that
model. With these capabilities, Foley Rebuild
can dyno test engines up
to Cat’s G3600.
fuel-pump repair and rebuild work,
Davis said. “With unit injectors, that
business should be going away, but
we get some fuel pumps in here that
are 30 years old. We can rebuild them,
check the fuel delivery, actually check
the setpoint rpm, and have the pump
tested, ready to bolt on and go.”
Likewise with carburetion systems,
Foley does some repair and rebuild-
ing vs. straight exchange systems,
changing bearing shafts in the carbu-
retors, changing jets and valves as
well as diaphragms. Foley Equipment
has over 67,000 parts of line items
available to support the rebuild oper-
ation with a 9000 sq.ft. (837 m2) ware-
house on-site.

Foley Rebuild has four 5 ton, one 7. 5
ton and two 15 ton cranes, and 43 2
ton jib cranes with 20 ft. ( 6 m) reach.
Most of the overhead cranes run the
full 470 ft. (143 m) length of the building. They can be used in tandem from
a single wireless controller to move
engines through the company’s enhanced process flow system.
As an engine moves through, each
component removed from an engine
is tracked through the rebuild process, ensuring the components stay together and the engine maintains its
original configuration and identity.
The machine shop has spray-weld
capabilities to replace metal and then
all surfaces are machined back to
original specifications. While there are
a variety of machines in the shop, a
Rottler F99 machining center is the
heart and soul of Foley’s machine
shop operations and can handle engines up through the Cat 3520 range.
As Davis described it, the F99 can
check critical engine block measurements like line bore, deck height, and
make repairs like surface engine
blocks, line bore a block and repair
lower cylinder liner sealing areas.
Foley Equipment recently purchased a
