Shaft And Coupling
Alignment
Ludeca has introduced its new
shaft alignment tool. Shaftalign features a TFT backlit color display
and was designed with intuitive
auto-flow capability to guide the
user to obtain the desired machinery alignment condition. An “active
clock” measurement mode was incorporated to automatically collect
the laser coordinates for the corresponding shaft position. Ludeca
said only three readings over a rotation angle of less than 70° are required to achieve alignment.
Shaftalign also features a built-in light sensor to optimize screen
image quality and power management, along with rechargeable
batteries. The unit is upgradeable as alignment requirements increase and offers options to generate and archive alignment
measurement reports through its Alignment Reporter PC software
or through direct reports as a PDF to a memory stick.

Vibration Measurements
Balmac Inc.’s new Model 230 vibration meter was designed to store a
day’s worth of vibration measurements used to check the condition of
rotating equipment to provide early
warning of potential machine problems before a failure occurs. The
Model 230 meter was developed with
a 100 mV/g accelerometer with a
magnetic base and extension probe
for hard-to-reach locations. Readings and measurements are displayed on a backlit display, designed to be viewable in direct
sunlight or low-light conditions, said the company. It operates
with four standard AA alkaline batteries and also features an
auto-shutoff to help extend battery life.

Water Jacket Cooled Motor
WEG Electric Corp. has introduced the WGM Water Jacket
Cooled Motor, designed for applications in extreme environments with space constraints,
such as marine duty, cement,
mining, petrochemical, steel,
wind energy and pulp and paper. The motor was developed for aggressive operating conditions
where high output power versus frame size ratio is required, said
WEG. In addition, it was designed to have a lower noise level,
compact construction, reduced thermal dissipation and variable frequency drive operation.
It can be mounted vertically or horizontally and comes in power
ranges from 400 to 3750 hp (298 to 2796 kW) and voltages from
690 to 6600 V. The water circulates over the frame construction and
endshields, allowing an effective thermal exchange between the
motor and water and increasing the output power versus frame
size ratio. In addition, said WEG, the system was designed to minimize the heat exchange with the environment and cools the bearings without requiring an independent cooling system.
